Darren is an absolute legend and such an understated craftsman. You'll struggle to find him online, but he's out there working day in, day out, preserving our woodlands and creating amazing things. I'm proud to have learnt from him and to call him a friend.

I was there today...its amazing what has been done!!

My spoken english isnt good, but I hears she talked much about qualifications. A fun fact is, the official demands on their flying qualifications were very strict. Several hundred hours of solo flying. But when the demand on more pilots come, even female pilots, the demands were reduced somewhat; and what really decided was a rather basic flying test (essentially, start in the Moth trainer, fly around the area in a quadrat, land) And if they managed the test (and of course, physical examina, security OK, etc) they were let in, and got more training inside the program... Thus some naturals with suprising few solo flying hours did come in... Weak palookas of course did never come in, or were thrown out during the training course. But naturals had a fighting chance to come in. The brits misogyny was much lesser than americans.

We're very built up but now with the developments of Debenhams, leisure world, maritime gateway, mayflower Park, train station, bargate and the completed ocean Village, centenary Quay etc we will be a powerhouse and have a peng skyline. I sailed in the races on a class two topsail schooner. We were part of the group that started in the ASTA races in Venezuela then joined the STA races in Porto. Thank you for the memories!

She was wrong, I could listen for hours and hours more. Fascinating trailblazers and role models.

One or two errors and missed out things, like the double high tide is not just Southampton that gets type of tide, there are a fair few places in the world that has double high tide, and the one in China even has a double low water, what causes the double high is the bounce back. But having these double high tides has it down turns also, like the tidal range is shallower and the movement of water becomes slower. Like we only have the highest tides of 4.9 metres, which will only give us an 8 knot down tide speed, even in the medieval times long before they started to dredge the channel, ships could only get to the town walls at high tide, in the 1600s and 1700s, they put walls of planks along the low point of the tide, so when the tide was on its way out it would cut a deeper channel. Which extended the length of time a ship could come up river to the port

I was a friend of Trevor’s younger brother, Stephen as we were at school together at the Convent Prep School in Abingdon.I remember going with Stephen and his mother to see Trevor flying the Tiger Moth ( taking a rather nice picnic ! ) when Stephen and I were about 8 years old ! Happy days !

This is a wonderful video summarising a beautiful city in this day and age. You should produce a series based on specific periods. Incredible that the city has such history!

A truly awful film with dreadful voices, silly script (it was like a macaroni pudding), leaps around and totally fails to portray Southampton's vibrancy, its stature and its wonderful people. And I am a Yorkshireman! Can't believe it was a professional production.

Remember seeing this on 31st December 2000 where West Quay South is now, projected onto old town walls, but was then unfortunately interrupted by breakdowns. Nice to see it right the way through......
